There is comfort in the familiar. As I sit and battle insomnia, I wonder if the Internet has encouraged me to experiment with an unhealthy form of self-medication as it is usually my first stop for some speedy therapy. I have searched through articles about rejuvenating yourself and finding your passion all night. I've marked each encouraging gem in my del.icio.us category thoughtfully titled "Inspiration" and moved on in search of more. While perusing, I booked appointments for a European massage, and a fierce new haircut. These are things that I normally do when I'm feeling...lost. And they usually work, but today is different.
There is comfort in the familiar, and change is the most familiar thing I know.
I love my job but something is missing. So today I am stepping out on faith and writing the vision: I will find the missing puzzle piece, as this familiar is not doing it for me anymore. There are many (myself included) that would beg to differ. I have done wonderfully here, personally and career wise, and I've built strong relationships. But Charlotte doesn't define me, and neither does my job. As Rebecca Thorman says, place does indeed make a difference. She notices, "as careers take a back seat to relationships, and as it becomes easier to connect with those who we care about, its place that drives our decisions." And it's place that ultimately drives my bias for change.
Some (again, myself included) will question whether this is some temporary solution to my never ending journey to fix things that aren't broken. And maybe it is. But relying on familiar situations while there are fundamental problems, often known as the "what we need here is a bigger hammer!" syndrome, is definitely not a place I want to be in either.

Change is familiar to me as well. Actually I thrive off of it. Its exciting to see where you will end up and to know that where you've been has been an experience that will help you to make positive, progressive changes in your life.
It can be scary, it can be overwhelming but never forget how exciting and life changing it could be as well. I completely agree that your environment has a great effect on every aspect of your life.
Its all part of the process of finding your spot.
